iPhone 18 Pro owners report touchscreen and Face ID restart bugs
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max have only been on sale since Friday, but early adopters are already running into two notable issues. Some owners are reporting that the touchscreen periodically becomes unresponsive, with at least one user posting video footage on X showing repeated swipes failing to register any reaction from the display. A separate but potentially more disruptive problem involves the phones restarting unexpectedly after a failed Face ID authentication attempt, with one Reddit thread drawing more than 20 replies from users describing the same behavior. The root causes remain unclear on both fronts. The touchscreen freeze may be a software issue tied to iOS 27, with one theory pointing to an accidental simultaneous invocation of Control Center and Notification Center, though the user who originally reported the problem has disputed that explanation.
The restart issue could be connected to the redesigned, smaller Face ID sensor array Apple introduced on the iPhone 18 Pro series, but that has not been confirmed either. At least one affected owner was told by Apple Support that their specific device was simply faulty. Apple has not officially acknowledged either problem, and it is too early to gauge how widespread they actually are. Whether a software update can resolve one or both issues, or whether hardware replacements will be necessary in some cases, should become clearer as the phones get into more hands over the coming days.
