Amazon is acquiring a satellite company named Globalstar in a deal valued at $11.57 billion, getting access to the latter’s communication satellites. This, in addition to the hundreds of satellites it plans to inject into orbit as part of its Leo project, which will also cover in-flight WiFi, takes the battle straight to Elon Musk’s Starlink service. Here’s the fun part: Globalstar is Apple’s partner to provide satellite connectivity on millions of iPhones, which means Apple is now an Amazon client.
